Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center

“The area’s best and most experienced physicians now have their own orthopaedic hospital within a hospital.” – Glenn Elia, Chief Executive Officer, Connecticut Orthopaedics

Connecticut’s World-class Orthopaedic Experience

Together with Hartford HealthCare, we’ve launched the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center. Designed and managed by our renowned orthopaedic specialists, we planned every detail to give you the best possible experience for treatment and recovery.

At 14,000 square feet, the Institute spans an entire pavilion of MidState Medical Center that’s been completely renovated and repurposed for orthopaedic patients and their guests. The 21, all-private patient rooms were designed to be calming and healing to feel more like a high-end hotel than a hospital. The Institute includes 11 operating rooms, a new orthopaedic rehabilitation space, separate kitchen facilities, and other convenient amenities to make your stay with us seamless, comforting, and safe.

Hi, I’m doctor John McCallum, Medical Director of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at Midstate Medical Center and I’m doctor Len Kolstad Co-Medical Director and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery here at Midstate. Your safety is our top concern. We’ve taken extra precautions so you can be safe and feel confident when you visit MidState Medical Center. Here’s what we’re doing to keep you safe when you come to the hospital for your procedure and even before you arrive. Before your procedure, we’ll ask you questions about your health and schedule you for a COVID-19 test. Of course, you’ll wear a mask or face covering when you arrive. If you don’t have one we’ll provide one for you. We’ve increased the cleaning frequency for all high touch surface areas with EPA approved disinfectants. We do a complete cleaning in between each patient, and we clean and disinfect all patient care equipment after use on each patient. Staff here are screened for symptoms every time they report to work and are tested as appropriate. All staff members wear masks. Hand hygiene is essential. Sanitizing stations with effective alcohol-based germ-killing products are available throughout the hospital. A team member will reach out to you prior to your surgery to review the visitor policy. We want you to know about all the way you can stay safe and all that we’re doing to provide a clean environment. If you have questions, call our 24/7 hotline at 860-972-8100 or visit HartfordHealthcare.org or call your doctor’s office. We are here to provide safe care and protect your health. Thank you.
