Drs. McCallum and Lynch Begin Practice at Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists'
"Hospital within a Hospital"

New Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center welcomes doctors who will continue to see patients at their COS offices as well.

Thursday, July 13, 2017

Just over two months after its first surgery at the new Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center, Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists (COS) announced an expanded group of doctors who will practice there.  Dr. John McCallum, from COS, performed his first surgery at the new Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute on May 10, 2017 and has since been joined by Dr. Christopher Lynch also from COS.

"The area's best and most experienced physicians now have their own orthopaedic hospital within a hospital to complement our outpatient surgical center in Branford," suggested Glenn Elia, Chief Executive Officer of Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists. The new "hospital within a hospital" is physician run, with leadership coming directly from COS, and provides patients with convenient access to high-quality care. Once fully complete later this year, the Institute will be 14,500 square feet, including 11 operating rooms, new orthopaedic rehabilitation space, and separate kitchen facilities. The 21, all-private patient rooms feel more like a high-end hotel than a hospital with design amenities incorporated to achieve a calming and healing environment

Dr. John D. McCallum specializes in hip and knee problems including arthritic and sports related injuries. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. McCallum completed a surgical internship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA. He also earned a Master's degree in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University.  Dr. McCallum resides in Guilford, CT.

Dr. Christopher Lynch specializes in joint replacement and reconstruction. A graduate of Lafayette College and Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI, Dr. Lynch completed his residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center/R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD.  He also spent a year as a Fellow specializing in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at Colorado Joint Replacement in Denver, CO. Dr. Lynch resides in Branford, CT.
