HAMDEN, CONNECTICUT - Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists (COS), has announced that Dr. James J. Yue, a specialist in disorders of the spine, back and neck, has joined its practice. Dr. Yue will be seeing COS patients in Shelton, Hamden and Essex. He most recently served as co-chief of the orthopaedic spine surgery section at the Yale School of Medicine. He was also director of the ACGME Yale Spine Fellowship as well as the lead surgeon for motion sparing and endoscopic spine surgery.

“It’s an honor to be able to have someone with Dr. Yue’s experience and skill on our team,” noted Glenn Elia, CEO of Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists. "We believe that Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists will allow Dr. Yue to provide the high level of care that he has been trained for because we control the patient environment including every aspect of the continuum of care."

"The practice of orthopaedic surgery is rapidly evolving,” suggested Dr. Yue. “Due to its multi-faceted approach to clinical care and practice development, COS is uniquely positioned to respond to these changes and provide the highest quality and value based patient centric care."

A resident of Guilford, CT, Dr. Yue completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, where he received an A.B. degree with magna cum laude honors in biology. He completed his medical school training at the Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, IL, and his orthopaedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals of Cleveland, in Cleveland, OH, where he worked closely with Dr. Henry Bohlman. Dr. Yue also completed two post residency fellowships, the first at the RA Cowley Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and the second at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, UK, under the supervision of Mr. John K Webb and Mr. John O'Brien.

Dr. Yue was recently appointed Associate Clinical Professor in the department of Surgery at the Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. In 2016, COS announced that it would provide $250,000 over five years to support scholarships at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. A portion of the donated funds will also be used to attract students into the program. COS also provides orthopaedic surgeons to instruct students in labs, teach seminars and mentor students who are doing honors research. Students are now able to access COS facilities for learning opportunities as well. Other COS providers, including physician assistants, physical therapists and occupational therapists, are providing support and instruction at the university as needed.
