Beginners and advanced runners are invited to learn more about training routines, the biomechanics of running, strength and conditioning techniques, and tips on buying running shoes, clothing and accessories. The general public is invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
Forum speakers include Chris Dickerson (Quinnipiac Track & Cross Country Coach and Owner of Woodbridge Running Company), Dr. Jeffrey Delott (Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialist) and Kirsten Albrecht (Physical Therapy & Pilates Restoration). Some topics discussed will be training methods for distance running, how to choose the right shoe for your foot, typical running injuries, including evaluation and medical management, manual techniques such as deep friction massage, and joint mobilizations and passive stretching. The general public is invited to ask questions to the speakers.
The forum will help prepare runners for the 4th Annual Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K. The event is expecting over 3,000 participants and features a Half Marathon, Relay, 5K, Ion Insurance Kids Fun Run and the UnitedHealthcare Healthy & Active Living Festival. The Cheshire Half Marathon and 5K, Inc. is a registered 501(c) 3 non profit corporation that supports organizations that assist special needs individuals and their families. The Ion Insurance Kids Fun Run is free for all Cheshire residents.
The event would not be possible without the support of over 400 local volunteers on raceday. A number of Cheshire High School athletic teams volunteer on race day.
