Dr. Rakesh Patel is double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He is fellowship trained in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.
Dr. Patel graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stony Brook University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then went to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he obtained his MD in 1994. He completed his internship in medicine at Winthrop University Hospital on Long Island, residency in Anesthesiology at Stony Brook University Hospital and a Pain Management fellowship at Syracuse University Hospital which was completed in 1999. He has been in private practice in Connecticut for the past 20 years delivering high quality care to those in pain. Dr. Patel is highly regarded by his patients and his peers for his compassionate care and excellent diagnostic abilities. He has gained the admiration and confidence of his patients by listening and addressing their concerns regarding how pain is affecting their lives.
Dr. Patel is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Connecticut Pain Society, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Connecticut Medical Society and New Haven County Medical Society.
Dr. Patel offers a comprehensive approach to pain management using interventional, medical and rehabilitative techniques. He specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic fluoroscopically-guided cervical and lumbar spine procedures, radiofrequency neurotomy and joint injections. The ultimate goal is to relieve the patients pain and improve their function and quality of life.
Dr. Patel is married to Dr. Nomita Bhawal, a cardiac anesthesiologist, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport. They have 3 sons and 1 daughter. His interests include family time, baseball, basketball, football, travel and music.
